One of the artist’s favorite abstract expressionist painters is Willem de Kooning. His vibrant use of colors and brushstroke technique has always resonated in him. As an ode to his work, the colors used by De Kooning were translated into motion vectors and then passed through a system of generative fluid simulation feedback affected by these vectors, distorting brush strokes and liquefying colors.
This coin raises the question, what if the machine continued to paint and reimagine De Kooning’s work into something new, always using his color scheme but using his own digital painting technique? Who is now the author? Is it still the painter or was it the machine or the person who provided the data to the machine?
